About Us
Rock-Around was formed in October 2001. It was started by Phil Bell (Rhythm Guitar) and Ian Howell (Drums), after the break-up of their former band Walk Right Back.
Steve Heckford (Lead Guitar) was introduced, who had played with bands in the 60’s and 70’s . Phil Cole (Sound Engineer and Critic) joined the band to play (Bass) in January 2002. This completed the line up, and Rock-Around started to play their extensive repertoire of Rock and Roll to packed venues across the South of England. An ever increasing number of gigs kept the band busy until the end of 2004, playing in pubs, clubs, Rock and Roll club dance nights, private functions including birthdays, weddings or anniversaries, village fetes, Eastbourne Bandstand and even the Ardingly South of England show ground for a Historic Transport Show.
At the beginning of 2005 Dave B successfully auditioned as (Vocalist) taking Rock-Around’s music to new heights. Dave B has his own solo act "Dave B's Rocking Years" and he is a very talented vocalist. Dave B is able to cover all styles of music backed by the musical talent of Rock-Around’s backline Ian Howell on (Drums), Phil Cole on (Bass Guitar), Phil Bell on (Rhythm Guitar) and Steve Heckford on (Lead Guitar).
2006 again saw Rock-Around keeping busy with gigs, many of them at return venues including Eastbourne Bandstand. The band is now working hard playing good old Rock and Roll from 2007 onwards.
2011 has been another eventful year.
Trevor Ross has decided to stand down and we all wish to thank Trevor for his considerable input for the band and wish him the very best for the future.
Pete Lees has also decided to move on, again we wish him well.
We would like to welcome two new members Graham Thatcher playing Bass and David Fennel lead vocals.
